In 1889 Georg König founded the "Factory of pharmaceutical rubber and gutta-percha preparations - laboratory of the princely court pharmacy" in Bückeburg. Initially, the company produced medical articles, mainly plasters and tablets. In 1904 the small company employed a total of 25 people.

In 1935, under the name “Georg König GmbH”, production was expanded to include the rubber adhesive tape TYPOPLAST. In addition, the company developed into one of the most important manufacturers of medical plasters.

In 1946, the later namesake Hans Neschen joined the company. At that time, right after the Second World War , German plaster production suffered from extreme overcapacity . Neschen reacted with a restructuring: from 1948 self-adhesive book protection films were offered. The company became known through the "Bückeburger Buchhaut" filmolux®; libraries and lending libraries in particular use the product. The production of plasters was finally stopped in 1957. The company was eventually converted into "Hans Neschen GmbH & Co. KG" and increasingly oriented towards the international market. In the 1960s, the first foreign representations were opened in Paris, Vienna and Tokyo. From 1972 Neschen began delivering laminating machines and introduced cold lamination in the photo and printing area.

In 1997, Hans Neschen GmbH & Co. KG was converted into Neschen AG, and the company went public in 1999. Neschen AG shares are included in the CDAX .

The company's greatest expansion took place shortly after the turn of the millennium, a production site in the USA and the SEAL laminating machine brand were taken over. In the following years, Neschen expanded its product portfolio with printable media, which developed into the Neschen AG division with the highest turnover. At the end of 2013, Neschen sold the SEAL business. After Neschen had been selling SEAL laminating devices as an exclusive dealer for another two years, sales were discontinued worldwide and only laminators from in-house production were marketed.

From 2008 to 2013 sales fell from EUR 119 million (2008 as a whole) to EUR 61.7 million for the 2013 financial year. On July 1, 2015, insolvency proceedings were opened before the Bückeburg District Court.

From 2013 to 2016, Neschen AG is in a restructuring the debt servicing capacity of the company recover. To this end, many changes have been made in the company (including the introduction of a new logo). In addition, an unprofitable manufacturing facility in Great Britain was sold.

As of December 1, 2016, the business operations of Neschen AG were completely taken over by a subsidiary of Blue Cap AG , Neschen Coating GmbH. The restructuring was followed by a positive development in sales and earnings.
