The 2011/12 season was the fifth season of the Elite Series under the name AL-Bank Ligaen and thus the 27th edition of the highest Danish ice hockey division . The main round started on September 15, 2011, the playoffs were played from February 23 to April 21, 2012. The league consisted of nine teams. In the final series, last year's champion Herning Blue Fox turned the series against the Odense Bulldogs after a 3-1 deficit and celebrated his 16th Danish championship title .

After playing with only eight teams last year, there was no relegation. The Herlev Eagles rose after two years in the second division from the 1st division . The second new name in the league was Copenhagen Hockey . After various financial problems in recent years, another new beginning was started in Hvidovre under the new name from summer 2011.
mode
In the main round, the nine teams played 40 games each. Each team received three points for a win after regular time, two points for a win after overtime, one point for a loss after overtime and zero points for a defeat after regular time. The eight best-placed teams qualified for the playoffs. In the first two playoff rounds, the teams were allowed to choose their playoff opponent in the order of their final placements, whereby the first placed could choose his opponent first.
