Emanuel Faltis
Emanuel Maria Faltis (born May 28, 1847 in Lanžov , Bohemia, † August 14, 1900 in Wroclaw ) was a Bohemian bandmaster, conductor and composer.
Life
The son of the Lanžov parish school teacher Augustin Faltis first attended the Stiftsgymnasium Braunau . He then continued his education at a Prague grammar school, where he graduated. From 1866 Faltis then studied at the organ school in Prague and then became a member of the German orchestra at the Royal State Theater in Prague.
He soon left Bohemia and worked as a conductor at opera houses in Ulm, Riga, Lübeck, Kiel, Stettin, Berlin, Basel and Bremen. Faltis was court conductor in Coburg for 14 years. In 1897 he went blind. During a stay in Breslau, Faltis died of a stroke. He found his final resting place in the family grave in the Lanžov cemetery.
His compositional work includes a. two symphonies, four instrumental masses, eight choral masses, a string quartet and four orchestral overtures.
