Emanuel Herrera (born April 13, 1987 in Fighiera ) is an Argentine football player .

Club career

Career start in Argentina and Chile

Emanuel Herrera came from the youth department of Rosario Central , a club near his hometown Fighiera. There he could not recommend himself for the first team and was awarded several times to other clubs. First in 2008 to Chacarita Juniors , then to Sportivo Italiano and CA Patronato . In all three Argentine second division clubs, however, the striker was unable to prevail and did not score any goals in the league. On the recommendation of his agent, Herrera decided to move to neighboring Chile. He found a new job with the second division CD Concepción and was finally able to tap his potential. With the club he reached third place in the table and scored 27 goals in 35 games. In both the Torneo Apertura and the Torneo Clausura he was the top scorer with 11 and 16 goals respectively. After this successful season, the Argentine was signed by the Chilean first division club Unión Española . In the first division, Herrera was also the top scorer in the Apertura with 11 goals. In the Copa Libertadores 2012 he also reached the round of 16, in which Unión Española failed at CA Boca Juniors .

HSC Montpellier

On July 6, 2012, he moved to Europe and should replace the striker Olivier Giroud at the reigning French champions HSC Montpellier . On the 2nd match day of the season, the striker scored the first goal for his new club in the 1: 2 defeat against FC Lorient . After another goal in the 3-1 win over FC Sochaux on Matchday 4, he was initially only used as a joker in the following months. It was only on the 18th matchday that Herrera managed to score another goal in a safe 4-0 win over SC Bastia . In this game, the Argentine was also used for the full 90 minutes for the first time. In the UEFA Champions League 2012/13 he failed with Montpellier in the group stage. In the last group game against the German representative FC Schalke 04 on December 4, 2012, he scored the 1-1 final and his first goal in the most important European club competition.

Change to Latin America

On January 10, 2014 Herrera moved on loan to the Mexican first division club UANL Tigres . Herrera made his debut on February 1, 2014, when he was substituted on in the second half of the local derby against CF Monterrey . On February 4, Herrera scored two goals against UAT Correcaminos at the Copa México . On February 26, he managed a hat trick against Puebla FC in a Copa México group game . In the semi-finals of the Copa México he scored the 3-0 for UANL Tigres and thus reached the final. In the final they defeated Alebrijes de Oaxaca FC with a 3-0 and consequently won the Mexican Cup, also he was the second best goalscorer of the tournament with six goals.

During the summer break, Herrera moved to CS Emelec free of charge .
