Emanuel Olde

Emanuel Mattias Olde (born September 8, 1802 in Stockholm , † August 2, 1885 in Ängelholm ) was a Swedish Romance studies , English and Nordic studies .

life and work

After studying and spending time abroad, Olde was a high school teacher in Stockholm from 1833 to 1846, then a lecturer in French and English, from 1850 professor at Uppsala University . He received his doctorate in 1859 from Carl August Hagberg with the thesis De l'influence des idiomes gotho-germains et scandinaves sur la formation de la langue française, et des traces qu'on en retrouve encore dans la langue actuelle. Etude de philologie comparée et historique (Lund 1859) and was from 1860 to 1876 as Hagberg's successor professor for new European linguistics and modern literary studies at the University of Lund . From 1870 to 1871 he was rector of Lund University. Edvard Lidforss and Fredrik Wulff were among his students .
