Emanuel Sarkisyanz

Emanuel (Manuel) Sarkisyanz (born June 23, 1923 in Baku , Soviet Union ; † March 12, 2015 in Mérida , Mexico ) was Professor at the University of Heidelberg and member of the Academy of Sciences of Yucatan , Mexico.

Career

Sarkisyanz studied at the universities of Tehran and Chicago . In 1952 he received his Ph.D. from the University of Chicago. and was there student of Arnold Bergstraesser . At his invitation, he was Southeast Asia Advisor for the German Society for Foreign Policy from 1956 to 1958 . In 1960 he was visiting professor at the Department of History at the University of Kiel and 1961–1962 for the history and politics of South Asia in Freiburg im Breisgau and from 1962–1963 visiting professor at the University of Kansas . 1963–1967 he was an adjunct professor at the University of Freiburg. Since 1967 he has been a full professor of political science at the South Asia Institute at Heidelberg University. Since his retirement , Sarkisyanz lived alternately in Ketsch near Heidelberg and Mérida , Mexico.
