Emanuel Wirth

Emanuel Wirth (born October 18, 1842 in Luditz ; † January 5, 1923 in Berlin ) was a German violinist .

Life

As assistant to Joseph Joachim at the Hochschule für Musik in Berlin , Wirth taught violin and viola . August Wilhelmj called him the best violin teacher of his generation. His students include Albert Stoessel and Edmund Severn .

In addition, he played the viola for almost 30 years, from 1877 to 1906, in the Joachim Quartet, which was very successful at the time . It also consisted of Joseph Joachim himself, Robert Hausmann and Heinrich de Ahna , who was replaced by Carl Halir in 1897 . His son Joseph married the youngest daughter of the singer and singing teacher Julius Stockhausen , Julia Wirth b. Stockhausen (1886–1964).
