Embalenhle is a township in Govan Mbeki municipality in Mpumalanga province in South Africa . In the 2011 census , Embalenhle had 118,889 inhabitants and is currently the 20th largest city in South Africa . About 50% of the population speaks Zulu and about 10% each speaks Xhosa and Sesotho .

The township was founded as part of South Africa's racial segregation policy for the black workers who were needed for coal mining in the region, which is why they still make up 99% of the population today.
