The Emil-Fischer-Gymnasium is a high school in Euskirchen . It is named after the chemist Emil Fischer who was born in Euskirchen .

history

The grammar school was founded in 1851 as a high school for boys. A private high school already existed there before it was founded. In 1907 it moved to Billiger Strasse. The name of the grammar school, Kaiserin-Auguste-Victoria-Gymnasium, was renamed "Emil-Fischer-Gymnasium" in the course of National Socialism . This renaming after the chemist Emil Fischer , who attended this school, took place in order to prevent the naming after Nazi greats such as Adolf Hitler . In 1966 the school finally moved to the current building and in 1967 the building complex was expanded.

Special

In the auditorium of the grammar school there is the municipal theater Euskirchen, which seats 700 spectators. Until 2007, the Emil-Fischer-Gymnasium shared the building complex with the North School in Euskirchen. Today there is a primary school there.
