history

The diocese Sibolga was on November 17, 1959 by Pope John XXIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Medan as the Apostolic Prefecture of Sibolga . The Apostolic Prefecture of Sibolga was raised to a diocese on October 24, 1980 by Pope John Paul II and made a suffragan subordinate to the Archdiocese of Medan .
