The Roman Catholic Diocese of Atambua ( lat. : Dioecesis Atambuensis ) is in Indonesia located Roman Catholic diocese based in Atambua .
history
Pope Pius XI founded the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch Timor with the Apostolic Constitution Ad Christi Evangelium on May 25, 1936 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Lesser Sunda Islands . On November 11, 1948, it took the name, Vicariate Apostolic Atambua.
On January 3, 1961, it was raised to a diocese and subordinated to the archdiocese of Ende as a suffragan diocese. It lost part of its territory on April 13, 1967 in favor of the establishment of the Kupang diocese . On October 23, 1989 it became part of the new ecclesiastical province of the archdiocese of Kupang.
