The Roman Catholic Diocese of Amboina ( lat. : Dioecesis Amboinaënsis ) is in Indonesia located Roman Catholic diocese based in Ambon .
history
The diocese was on December 22, 1902 by Pope Leo XIII. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Batavia as the Apostolic Prefecture of the Netherlands New Guinea . The Apostolic Prefecture of the Netherlands New Guinea was founded on August 29, 1920 by Pope Benedict XV. raised to the apostolic vicariate . On May 12, 1949, the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch New Guinea gave up parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture of Hollandia .
The Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch New Guinea was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Amboina on May 12, 1949 . On June 24, 1950, the Apostolic Vicariate Amboina gave parts of its territory to the establishment of the Apostolic Vicariate Merauke . The Apostolic Vicariate Amboina was on January 3, 1961 by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Quod Christ raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Makassar as a suffragan .
