The Archdiocese of Jakarta ( Latin Archidioecesis Giakartana , Indonesian Keuskupan Agung Jakarta ) is a Roman Catholic Archdiocese based in Jakarta , Indonesia .

history

In 1807, King of Holland Louis Bonaparte and Pope Pius VII divided the Dutch colonies into three ecclesiastical territories, including two in the Caribbean and the third in the East Indies , based in Batavia . The following year the first Apostolic Prefect was appointed, but the Apostolic Prefecture of Batavia was not actually established until 1826 from cessions of territory from the Apostolic Prefecture of Bourbon .

On April 3, 1841, the Apostolic Prefecture was elevated to an Apostolic Vicariate. On February 7, 1950, it took the name of the Vicariate Apostolic of Jakarta . On January 3, 1961, it was raised to the rank of metropolitan archbishopric.

It lost parts of its territory in favor of the establishment of the following dioceses:
