The Diocese of Jayapura ( lat. : Dioecesis Iayapuraensis ) is in Indonesia located Roman Catholic diocese based in Jayapura .

history

The Diocese of Jayapura was on May 12, 1949 by Pope Pius XII. Established with the Apostolic Constitution Melius aptiusque from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate of Dutch New Guinea as the Apostolic Prefecture of Hollandia . On June 14, 1954, the Apostolic Prefecture of Hollandia by Pius XII. with the Apostolic Constitution Ecclesiae Fastos raised to the Apostolic Vicariate . The Apostolic Vicariate Hollandia gave on December 19, 1959 parts of its territory to establish the Apostolic Prefecture Manokwari . On June 28, 1963, the Apostolic Vicariate Hollandia was renamed Apostolic Vicariate Kota Baru . The Apostolic Vicariate of Kota Baru was renamed the Apostolic Vicariate Sukarnapura on June 12, 1964 .

On November 15, 1966, the Apostolic Vicariate Sukarnapura was by Pope Paul VI. raised to a diocese with the Apostolic Constitution Pro suscepto and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Merauke as a suffragan . The diocese of Sukarnapura was renamed the Diocese of Djajapura on April 25, 1969 . On August 22, 1973, the Diocese of Djajapura was renamed the Diocese of Jayapura . The Diocese of Jayapura gave on December 19, 2003 parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Timika .
