Emil Angehrn

Emil Angehrn (born May 9, 1946 in Lucerne ) is a Swiss philosopher and professor emeritus, who stood out primarily with work on hermeneutics .

Life

Angehrn studied philosophy at the Catholic University of Leuven from 1966 and graduated in 1969 with a licentiate . From 1969 to 1975 he studied philosophy, sociology and economics at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and received his doctorate in 1976 under Michael Theunissen on the subject of "Freedom and the system at Hegel ".

From 1976 to 1980 he was a lecturer in philosophy at the University of Heidelberg as well as a research fellow and a postdoctoral fellow. From 1980 to 1986 he was a university assistant at the Free University of Berlin , where he also received his habilitation in 1983 with a paper on "History and Identity" .

After substituting professorships at the Free University of Berlin and the University of Basel , in 1989 he was offered a professorship for philosophy at the Johann Wolfgang Goethe University in Frankfurt am Main . From 1991 to 2013 Angehrn was a full professor of philosophy at the University of Basel. From 2000 to 2004 he was a member of the Research Council of the Swiss National Science Foundation . From 2004 to 2007 he was dean or vice dean of the Faculty of Philosophy and History at the University of Basel.
