Emil "Bubi" Becks (* March 12, 1925 - April 17, 2014 ) was a German soccer player . As a player for Rot-Weiß Oberhausen , he scored ten goals in 19 appearances in the Oberliga West in 1948/49, before moving to Bayer 04 Leverkusen as top scorer the following season. After his career, he also worked as a game observer for the Werkself .

Career

From Adler Frintrop, where he had only played briefly, Emil Becks switched to Rot-Weiß Oberhausen in 1948 . In the higher league, he immediately prevailed and was top scorer in the Oberliga West. Then the former Oberhausen coach Karl Winkler "Bubi" Becks guided the second division club Bayer 04 Leverkusen , who in the preseason had two decisive promotion games against 1. FC Köln and later against FC Schalke 04, two opportunities for promotion to the league- West had left out. Becks decided to move to Leverkusen because he was able to earn money as a contract footballer at Bayer AG as an employee. He could choose which area of ​​the plant he wanted to work in.

With Bayer he rose to the league in 1951 and thus in the year in which his former club RWO had to start the path to the second division. In the first season in the Oberliga, the Werkself did not lose any defeat in the Oberliga until the away game at FC Schalke 04 on matchday 12 and ended the season in 6th place. At the season highlight, a 2-0 away win against local rivals 1. FC Köln , Becks was responsible for the goals alongside Cologne's Langen, who contributed an own goal. From 1951 to 1956 he completed 94 league games for Leverkusen in the Oberliga West, scoring 22 goals. After his career, he worked as a player observer at Bayer 04 for many years.

Becks last lived in the Bavarian colony in Cologne-Flittard not far from the Bayer factory in Leverkusen. He died in hospital on April 17, 2014 at the age of 89. A week and a half earlier, he had been recognized for his 65-year membership at TSV Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
