Emil Knaake

Emil Hermann August Knaake (born February 14, 1852 in Kyritz , † September 8, 1932 in Tilsit ) was a German teacher and author .

Life

Born as the son of a master shoemaker, Knaake studied philology in Leipzig and Göttingen after attending high school in Wittstock . During his studies in 1872 he became a member of the Leipzig fraternity Germania . He got his degree in 1876 and had the teaching certificate for the subjects geography, history, Latin, Greek, German and religion. He became an assistant teacher for history at the secondary school in Tilsit. From 1886 until his retirement in 1914 he was a senior teacher at the local secondary school for girls, the Margarete Poehlmann School. He was the local chairman of the National Liberal Party for a long time . Knaake was also a member of the Provincial Synod for many years. He was Honorary Head of the Tilsit Casino Society. He worked as an author and wrote numerous textbooks , among other things .
