Trainer

Melcher took over in 1953, three months before the end of the 1952/53 round of the 2nd Oberliga West , which VfL Bochum succeeded in promoting to the Oberliga West . The team from Castroper Strasse rose in the 1954/55 round as bottom of the table again. With VfL Bochum Melcher succeeded in direct promotion before moving to the league relegated Bayer 04 Leverkusen for the 1956/57 round .
