Emil Preiss

Emil K. Preiss (* 1898 in Kirchheim unter Teck ; † February 15, 1962 ) was a German-American gymnast, trainer and sports teacher.

Life

Preiss, originally written Preiß, was a member of the men's gymnastics club in Stuttgart . He emigrated to the United States in 1923, where he attended the Normal College of the American Gymnastic Union (AGU College) in Indianapolis , Indiana . In 1925 and 1926 he won two national championships (1925: AAU free calisthenics title; 1926: American Turner all-around championship). From 1926 to 1930 he was a coach at the Aurora gymnastics club in Illinois and a physical education teacher at the Illinois Turner Camp in Chicago .

In 1928 he did gymnastics at the German Gymnastics Festival in Cologne and became the German champion in eight combat . On September 12, 1928, he and his wife Emma Preiss returned from Bremen to Aurora.

In late 1930 he moved from Illinois to the Sports Faculty of the University of Pennsylvania . He carried out this activity until his death in 1962. He was posthumously awarded a prize in 1966 by the National Association of Collegiate Gymnastics Coaches (NACGC).
