Emil Rabe

Emil Rabe (born November 1, 1920 in Dortmund ; † June 16, 2013 there ) was a German music teacher and composer .

life and work

Rabe received his training at the Dortmund Municipal Conservatory, where he passed the “Great Examination for Catholic Church Music” at the age of 20.

After returning from World War II, Rabe worked as a music teacher, organist and choir director. In 1946 the Archdiocese of Paderborn appointed him full-time church musician and he founded the Dortmund Chamber Choir with like-minded people . In addition to the chamber choir, Rabe directed the Dortmund Police Choir and the Dortmund Male Choir. As the founder and leader of many Dortmund choirs, it was also involved from 1949 to 1992 as a district choir director in the Dortmund Choir Association, whose honorary district choir director he was appointed in 1992.

Emil Rabe wrote over 400 compositions for secular and sacred choral singing, especially a cappella compositions, folk song arrangements as well as cantatas and orchestral choral works.

Awards

For his services to choral music , he was awarded the Federal Cross of Merit on Ribbon in 1973 . In 1993 he received the Federal Cross of Merit, 1st class . He was also awarded the Badge of Honor of the City of Dortmund.
