Émile Jean-Fontaine took part in the 1900 Olympic Games in Paris , where he competed in three competitions. In the open class he did not finish, while in the boat class 2 to 3 tons he reached the podium in two races in Meulan-en-Yvelines in the first of the two races. Besides De Cottignon, he was both crew members of the yacht Gwendoline, led by skipper Ferdinand Schlatter . In the first race the occupied Gwendoline behind Olly by William Exshaw and the Favorite of Léon Susse third. She did not finish the second race.
