Émile Thubron ( Ernest Blakelock Thubron ; born July 15, 1861 in Boldon near Durham ; † May 22, 1927 in Tokomaru , New Zealand ) was a British motorboat driver who started for France .

Thubrons biggest success was winning the gold medal at the 1908 Olympic Games in London over 40 miles an unlimited A-Class . His boat Camille , however, was the only one of two boats that reached the destination. Initially, the competition was supposed to be held between two other boats, but this was prevented by bad weather. In the second attempt, the Camille then competed against the Wolseley-Siddely with Hugh Grosvenor, 2nd Duke of Westminster , who ran aground and failed after taking the lead, so that Thubron could not take the Olympic victory after 2:26:53 hours was.

The name of Thubron's boat, Camille , goes back to the French woman Camille du Gast , who won a 500-mile race from Algiers to Toulon in 1905 .

After 1908, motor boating never became an Olympic discipline, so that Émile Thubron remains one of only four drivers who could achieve Olympic gold in motor boats.
