Emile Vuilloud (born June 30, 1822 in Monthey ; died September 17, 1889 in Morgins ) was a Swiss architect who mainly built churches and public buildings in the canton of Valais and Vaud , as well as villas.

Education and career

Nothing is known about an academic education Vuillouds, who attended schools in France (namely in Bonneville and Meylan ). A one-year internship with the Geneva architect Samuel Darier (1808–84) as well as a painting course in Besançon and from 1846 studying music there is mentioned. A largely autodidactic education is therefore likely. Emile Vuilloud was a drawing teacher at the Collège de Saint-Maurice (from 1850 until his death), he was also a painter and musician. In the course of his career, his architectural work changed from predominantly classicist buildings such as Notre-Dame in Monthey (1855), partly with baroque elements, such as the Casino in Sion (1864), to neo-Gothic designs, such as the parish church of Vevey .
