Emilia Edgardowna Slabunowa

Emilia Edgardowna Slabunowa ( Russian Эмилия Эдгардовна Слабунова ; born October 7, 1958 , Ufa , Bashkir ASSR , USSR ) is a Russian politician. Since December 2015 she has been chairman of the liberal party " Yabloko ".

Life

Emilia Slabunowa graduated from the History Faculty of Kuibyshev State University in 1980 . From 1982 to 1992 she taught history and social studies at the Technical Center for Construction in Petrozavodsk . After that, she worked as a teacher at Lyceum No. 1 in Petrozavodsk. From 1999 to 2013 she was director.

Political career

In 2001 she also became a member of the city council. In 2003 she joined the Yabloko party. She received her PhD in 2004. In 2006 she became a member of the Legislative Assembly of the Republic of Karelia on Yabloko's list. In 2011, she was reappointed to the assembly as the party's only directly elected MP. In 2013 she ran as a joint opposition candidate for the election of the mayor of Petrozavodsk. Two weeks before the election, her candidacy was rejected by the city court for formal reasons. After the election, she worked as the head of the council of experts of the city government for the opposition mayor Galina Schirschina, who was elected in her place .

In December 2015, she was surprisingly elected as the new chairman of the Yabloko party at the suggestion of party founder Grigori Jawlinski . Her predecessor Sergei Mitrochin could not be re-elected after two terms according to the statute. In the period that followed, she was unable to form an electoral alliance with the PARNAS party for the Duma elections in September 2016, which could have made it easier for the opposition democratic forces to enter parliament.

Emilia Slabunowa is married and has two grown children.
