Emilio Villanueva Peñaranda (born November 28, 1882 in La Paz ; † May 14, 1970 ibid) was a Bolivian architect .

family

His parents were José Villanueva (1831-1882) and Maria Peñaranda (1852-1942). His brother, Jose Gabino Villanueva, was a South American surgeon who was elected Bolivian President in 1925 but was unable to take office after the election was canceled. Regardless of all odds (his father died the year he was born), Emilio Villanueva achieved a successful career in business and politics.

Professional career

In 1907 he studied architecture at the University of Santiago de Chile . In 1914 he was involved in the planning and construction of the military school in La Paz, in 1916 in the planning and construction of the Hospital General in La Paz. In 1926 he designed and constructed the Bolivian central bank building. After a stay in Paris, he carried out the urbanization of the Miraflores district in La Paz in 1927 . In 1930 he planned and built the Estadio Hernando Siles stadium .

Villanueva was Dean of the Faculty of Science and in 1929 became Rector of the Universidad Mayor de San Andres , La Paz. In 1930 he was appointed Minister of Education. He founded the University of Architecture Universidad Mayor de San Andres .
