Emma Gramatica

Emma Gramatica (born October 25, 1874 in Borgo San Donnino , today Fidenza , † November 8, 1965 in Lido di Ostia ) was an Italian actress .

Life

Gramatica's great passion was the theater, where she enjoyed great success. At an early age, she had toured Russia and the USA alongside Eleonora Duse . Then she belonged to the formative ensembles of the late 19th century around Ermete Zacconi , Flavio Andò , Enrico Reinach and Ermete Novelli . With her own company she performed romantic and realistic plays and was known for staging plays by George Bernard Shaw . European tours followed.

The sister of the actress Irma Gramatica made her film debut in 1916. From the beginning of the 1930s she played in a number of successful film dramas, the climax of which she celebrated with The Miracle of Milan in 1951 . In 1954 she directed the film Peppino e la nobile dama as co-director of Piero Ballerini . In the 1930s she was also active in the radio productions that were popular at the time.

Gramatica was one of the most famous and popular actresses of her generation.
