Emma of France

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Emma of France (* 894 , † 934 ) was a West Franconian queen.

Emma was born to King Robert I and his wife Beatrix of Vermandois . In 921 she married Duke Rudolf of Burgundy , who succeeded his father-in-law as King of Western Franconia in 923. The couple had only one son Ludwig (* 934), who only lived a few years.

Emma is the first West Franconian queen whose coronation was documented in writing. She was not crowned with her husband, but only a few months after him in the autumn of 923 in Reims Cathedral by the Archbishop of Reims . A circumstance that the chroniclers of their time considered worth mentioning.

Emma died in the year of the birth of her son Ludwig, after supporting her husband in submitting a revolt from vassals.
