Emmanuel Gambardella (born July 3, 1888 in Cette (now Sète), † August 30, 1953 in Montpellier ) was a French football official , sports journalist, writer and author of numerous chanson texts .

Gambardella played for AS Cettoise , which he represented as a functionary in the committees of the USFSA . After he had to let his offices rest due to his military service and the First World War , he was active again as a football official as a representative of FC Cette . At the side of his club mate Georges Bayrou he fought in the following years at the Fédération Française de Football for the introduction of professional playing in France. He also used his position as a journalist for the magazine "Football", which was at times the semi-official press organ of the French association FFF. At the side of authors such as Gabriel Hanot , Lucien Gamblin or Marcel Rossini , he accompanied his request in a journalistic way.

After the introduction of the professional championship as part of Division 1 had been decided, Gambardella was one of the leaders of the competition from 1932 and headed the Commission du Championnat de France Professionnel , the body responsible for league operations and championships. After the break caused by the Second World War between 1939 and 1944, he returned to the top of the league and became the first president of the Ligue de Football Professionnel , the FFF commission of professional clubs. In 1949 he also followed Jules Rimet as President of the FFF. Until the summer of 1953 he filled both positions before he died in office.

In addition to his almost lifelong activities in football, Gambardella has also written several novels, plays, an operetta libretto and numerous chanson texts . In recognition of its services to French football, the French association renamed the Coupe Nationale des Juniors , the cup competition for French A youth club teams, to Coupe Gambardella in 1955 .
