Emmanuel Olisadebe (born December 22, 1978 in Warri , Nigeria ) is a former Polish football player of Nigerian origin.
Career
Striker Emmanuel Olisadebe came to Poland from Nigeria in 1997. He trained first as a trial at Wisła Krakow and Ruch Chorzów before signing a contract with Polonia Warsaw . In his first season he still struggled with starting difficulties and only scored one goal. He complained about racist reactions from the audience. In the 1999/2000 season he was already one of the best players in the Ekstraklasa and had a significant share in Polonia's win of the championship.
In 2000 President awarded him Aleksander Kwasniewski in a process outside the normal naturalization the Polish citizenship , and Olisadebe played immediately as the first black player in the history of Polish football for the national team. With his goals, he played a key role in Poland's first qualification since 1986 for the 2002 World Cup in Japan and South Korea . He quickly played his way into the hearts of Polish fans and also became the first black footballer of the year in Poland in 2001 . In the same year he married a 19-year-old woman from Warsaw.
His appearance at the World Cup was less successful. Poland was eliminated in the preliminary round. Olisadebe only scored one goal in their only win over the United States . Olisadebe had already switched to the Greek first division club Panathinaikos Athens before the World Cup in 2001 . There he could shine in both the Greek league and the Champions League . He won the double in 2004 and was one of the crowd's favorites. In January 2006, Olisadebe moved to the English first division club Portsmouth FC where he could not prevail. In August 2006 he returned to Greece to join AO Xanthi . However, after a dispute with the club president, he was no longer used and changed clubs again.
From 2007 to 2008 he played for the Cypriot club APOP Kinyras Peyias . In April 2008, Olisadebe signed a contract with the Chinese first division club Henan Construction FC (also known as Henan Jianye FC). Here he played three seasons until the end of 2010 his contract expired and was not renewed. For the 2011/2012 season he was hired by the Greek second division club Vyzas FC Megaron . However, he did not come across a single league use and moved to the second half of the season to league rivals Veria FC . Here he came on nine missions in which he scored a goal. Veria rose to the Super League (highest Greek league), but Olisadebe got no new contract and was initially without a club. In January 2012, he then declared his career over. He returned to Nigeria.
In total, Olisadebe played 25 times for the Polish national team and scored eleven goals.
The director Janusz Zaorski made the documentary Biało-czerwono-czarny, czyli Olisadebe ( white-red-black or Olisadebe ) about his life in Poland in 2002 . According to Zaorski, it is a film about "Tolerance and Intolerance in Poland".
