Empalme is a city in the Mexican state of Sonora with 42,516 inhabitants (2010). Empalme is located on the Gulf of California near the city of Guaymas at an altitude of seven meters. Empalme is the administrative seat of the Municipio Empalme .
history
The area was previously inhabited by various indigenous peoples such as the Yaqui . The city was founded on September 15, 1905. The first mayor until 1940 was C. Miguel Luján Twig.
