The Ems Rock is a cliff rock off the north coast of South Georgia . In the southern part of Stromness Bay, it is halfway between Harrison Point and Busen Point .
Scientists of the British Discovery Investigations under the direction of Lieutenant Commander John Miller Chaplin (1889-1977) determined his position in the course of surveys of Stromness Bay in 1927 and 1929. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named him in 1957 after the Norwegian whaling ship Ems of the Tønsbergs Hvalfangeri company in Husvik Harbor .
