The Harrison Point is bordered by cliffs headland on the north coast of South Georgia . It is 2.5 km west of Busen Point on the south bank of Stromness Bay .
Scientists from the UK Discovery Investigations mapped it and named the headland Matthews Point in 1927 . However, in order to avoid confusion with Matthews Point on the west side of the entrance to Undine Harbor , the UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee decided in 1955 to rename it to its current form. Both headlands are named after the British zoologist Leonard Harrison Matthews (1901–1986), a member of the staff of Discovery Investigations from 1924 to 1935 and who worked in South Georgia between 1924 and 1927.
