The Stromness Bay (from Norwegian power , power ' and nes , Headland ") is a 4.8 km wide bay on the north coast of South Georgia . Your entrance is between Cape Saunders and Busen Point . To the west it is divided from north to south into Husvik Harbor , Stromness Harbor and Leith Harbor .

The first sighting was probably in 1775 by James Cook ; It was named around 1912, presumably by Norwegian whalers using its harbors. During the Second World War , a gun emplacement was set up by the Royal Navy at the entrance to Stromness Bay to protect access to Leith Harbor whaling station . The gun was manned by Norwegian whalers who had previously been trained for this purpose. The three whaling stations Husvik , Stromness and Leith Harbor were connected by an uneven path on the shore of the bay. During the whaling era it was used by whalers from Stromness and Husvik to reach the Leith Harbor cinema, which was the only one on the island.
