Member parties

According to Spanish electoral law, different parties can run for election in a joint candidacy ( coalición electoral ). This joint candidacy can be limited to one or more constituencies. So the same party can e.g. B. compete in one constituency alone, in one constituency together with party A and in another constituency together with party B.

The En Marea community candidacy is limited to the four Galician constituencies ( A Coruña , Lugo , Ourense and Pontevedra ). The following parties belong to En Marea :

In the local elections on May 24, 2015 , Podemos, Esquerda Unida, ANOVA and other left-wing parties and movements in Galicia ran together in many cases under different names (e.g. Marea Atlántica in A Coruña , Marea de Vigo in Vigo , Marea Pontevedra in Pontevedra , Compostela Aberta in Santiago de Compostela , Ferrol en Común en Ferrol , Ourense en Común in Ourense ). These local elections were and are often collectively referred to in the media as Las Mareas . This name was adopted by the parties as En Marea for the community candidacy for the Spanish parliamentary elections in December. Marea means tide (the tides are particularly pronounced in Galicia) or also high tide (also in the sense of human flood), so that En Marea can be roughly translated as " en masse ".

In the election, En Marea was the second strongest force in Galicia behind the PP with a share of 25% of the vote (which corresponds to 1.6% calculated on the total Spanish result) . The candidacy thus received six of the 23 mandates that were awarded in the Galicia region.

For the election on June 26, 2016 , the joint candidacy was re-formed by the same parties.

In the election, En Marea was the third strongest force in Galicia with a 22% share of the vote (which corresponds to 1.4% of the total Spanish result) behind the PP and the PSOE . The candidacy thus received five of the 23 mandates awarded in the Galicia region.

Regional election September 25, 2016

For the election to the regional parliament, the member parties agreed not to appear formally as a community candidate, but to found an "instrumental" party called En Marea . This formally independent party thus only served as a "brand" for participation in the elections.

In the election, En Marea was the second strongest force behind the PP with 19% of the vote . The candidacy thus accounted for 14 of the 75 seats in the regional parliament.

No joint candidacy in the 2019 election

In the run-up to the Spanish parliamentary elections in 2019 , talks on the new edition of the electoral alliance failed. Podemos , Esquerda Unida and the small party Mareas en Común will take part in the elections as a joint candidacy under the name En Común-Unidas Podemos in the four Galician constituencies. En Marea , which was founded in 2016 as an "instrumental" party, will make its own lists. ANOVA-Irmandade Nacionalista will not take part in the election due to the failure of a unified left-wing candidate.
