Energy Steering Advisory Board

The Energy Steering Advisory Board is an advisory body to the Austrian Ministry of Economics . It comes together when special events occur in the Austrian energy supply .

The Energy Steering Advisory Board is regulated in Section 36 of the Energy Steering Act 2012 .

The Minister of Economic Affairs acts as chairman of the advisory board . Other members are:

Three members are to be appointed by the Federal Minister of Economics, Family and Youth , the experts in the mineral oil industry, energy trading and gas and heating supply are to be appointed by the Austrian Chamber of Commerce . The advisory board is to be convened if changes to regulations that affect the supply of Austria are to be decided.

Such control measures are regulated in the same law. For example, they can relate to the rationing of energy supplies. In more serious cases, energy sources can also be confiscated.

The ordinances on such control measures may only be adopted for a maximum of six months and only be extended in exceptional cases.

Most recently, the Energy Steering Advisory Board became active at the beginning of 2009 due to the gas supply bottlenecks in the course of the Russian-Ukrainian gas dispute .
