Engelbert Wüster

Engelbert Wüster (born December 31, 1877 in Ronsdorf , today in Wuppertal , † 1944 ) was a German journalist and local writer .

Life

Engelbert Wüster was born on New Year's Eve in 1877 in the Ronsdorf area of Wolfskuhle . He participated in the First World War as a soldier at the front.

The first publications come from his time as editor of the “Ronsdorfer Zeitung” and as a highly regarded author of animal and nature studies in the magazine “Bergische Heimat” and the Wuppertal Generalanzeiger . As a journalist, he wrote articles about his nature studies and theater reviews about performances on the Wuppertal , Düsseldorf and Cologne theaters.

Another of his concerns was the cultivation of local customs . He wrote numerous writings that dealt with the tension between tradition and the modern world and the far-reaching loss of the former.

Due to his refusal to join the NSDAP , he was forbidden to work as a journalist in the later period of National Socialism . For a living, he worked as a night watchman in a bread factory for two years until he retired . He died in 1944.

  • The Engelbert-Wüster-Weg street and the primary school of the same name (formerly Hauptschule ) in Wuppertal-Ronsdorf were named after Engelbert Wüster
