England is an English progressive rock band that was formed in 1975.

Band history

Martin Henderson and Robert Webb were already musically active before England was founded. Webb toured keyboardist with Al Stewart , David Essex , Billy Fury & The Tornados in the early 1970s . In 1975 they founded England with Jamie Moses and Mark Ibbotson. The latter soon left the band and were replaced by Frank Holland and Jode Leigh. In this line-up England played their debut album , which was released in 1977 on Arista Records .

Despite the critical success of the Genesis and Yes influenced Garden Shed , the band's record company withdrew their support and England broke up. Henderson worked briefly with Jeff Beck , but turned to engineering in the 1980s. Webb was after the separation of England a. a. Session keyboardist for The Pretty Things and David Gilmour . Jode Leigh played a. a. on Greg Lake 's first solo album.

In January 1997, Webb approached Henderson because he wanted to remaster Garden Shed , now a sought-after rarity and a classic of the genre. They discovered unpublished material, which they brought to market in the same year as the new edition of Garden Shed . In 2005 they formed the band again. Maggie Alexander met Webb in 2002 and founded Garden Shed Music with him. Alec Johnson had been friends with Leigh since childhood and, like Steve Laffy, had long been a professional musician.

After Garden Shed and Last of the Jubblies were reissued by Garden Shed Music in 2005, England played at the Baja Prog Festival in Mexicali in 2006 as well as in Tokyo (recorded for a live album) and in Sheffield . In May 2009 they performed at the MelloFest in London , where they sold CDs with four pre-production tracks for a planned new album. This finally appeared in 2018.
