Enno Aufderheide (born March 25, 1958 in Bochum ) is a German biologist and science manager. He has been Secretary General of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation since 2010 .

Life

Between 1978 and 1985 Aufderheide studied biology in Bielefeld, Bonn, in Boulder / USA and in Darmstadt. Between 1985 and 1988 he completed his dissertation at the Friedrich Miescher Laboratory of the Max Planck Society and obtained his doctorate. rer. nat. During his studies, Aufderheide received a scholarship from the German National Academic Foundation . Between 1988 and 1999 he held various positions in the project sponsorship department of the German Aerospace Center (DLR). Initially he was a "research assistant for the supervision of ongoing funding priorities" for rheumatism and autoimmune diseases, from 1990 he worked in the planning department, among other things, for strategy development for development funding in the new federal states, from 1992 onwards he headed a working group for project management tasks for the then Federal Ministry of Health In 1995 he became head of the health service department at DLR.

In 1999, Aufderheide moved to Cologne as head of the research department at the Science Council , where he was responsible, among other things, for the “supervision of statements on the Helmholtz Association (system evaluation) and the program of the special research areas and the research centers of the German Research Foundation”. Between 2002 and 2006 he was then Managing Director for Science at the Helmholtz Association ; In 2006 he moved to the Max Planck Society in Munich, where he became head of the “Research Policy and External Relations” department. In 2008, Aufderheide also became managing director of the “Minerva Foundation”, which promotes German-Israeli cooperation in science. In July 2010, Aufderheide finally became Secretary General of the Alexander von Humboldt Foundation based in Bonn. Between 1987 and 1993, Aufderheide published seven scientific publications in peer-reviewed journals (such as in Cell and the Journal of Cell Biology) and "various articles" on science-political issues. Aufderheide is married and has three daughters.
