Life

Enno von Marcard was a son of the Prussian lieutenant colonel Wilhelm von Marcard (1866-1940) and his second wife Carmen, born von Conring (* 1875). This marriage was divorced in March 1906. He married Maren Gerths in 1957, with whom he had four children.

Marcard's banking career began in 1919 with a job at the Hamburg bank Ree jr. He then worked for Lasally and Sons and for the fund broker Delmonte and Co., where he was initially an apprentice, then became a branch manager in 1923 and became a partner in 1932. In 1936 he took over the bank as sole owner and five years later it was named Marcard & Co. After the Second World War , he continued to build the bank, which was approved as a foreign trade bank in 1949. Until 1984 Marcard was a personally liable partner of the company, which has been called Marcard, Stein & Co since a merger with the Cologne private bank JH Stein in 1987 . His withdrawal coincides with the takeover by the French Banque Indosuez.

In 1989 Marcard presented his memoirs under the title Enno von Marcard, A Banker in Hamburg . He died in 1993 at the age of 92 as a result of a traffic accident in Ibiza.
