Enrico Mylius Dalgas (born July 16, 1828 in Naples , † April 16, 1894 in Aarhus ) was a Danish engineer officer and pioneer of soil melioration in Denmark . He was the descendant of one of the French Huguenot families who fled to Denmark in 1685.

Life

Dalgas use his military knowledge and organizational skills for the reclamation and afforestation West Jutland by the conversion of 1864 to ortsteinhaltigen exclaimed heaths a national concern.

On March 28, 1867, Dalgas founded the Danish Heidegesellschaft, together with Ferdinand Mourier-Petersen (1825–98) and Georg Morville (1817–1904), which, like later in Germany, the Haide-Cultur-Verein für Schleswig-Holstein ( Heidekulturverein ) , for the afforestation or cultivation of the wasteland and heathland. In Dejbjerg, the Dalgasstein (Danish: Dalgasstenen), a memorial stone to Enrico Dalgas, was erected in 1897. In Aarhus , Dalgas Avenue was named after him. He was rewarded for his achievements with the following awards: Knight of Dannebrog 1864, Dannebrogsmann 1867, Commander of the 1st degree in 1887 and received the Gold Medal of Merit in 1875.

Carl Emeis later used Dalga's knowledge and experience as a basis for his theory of stone formation and foreclosure. For the first time the role of humic acids in the leaching processes was properly appreciated´.
