Enrico Morpurgo

Enrico Morpurgo (born July 2, 1894 in Trieste , † March 4, 1972 in Amsterdam ) was an Italian author, Romanist , Italianist, art historian and historian of timekeeping who worked in the Netherlands.

life and work

Morpurgo, whose name (“Marburger”) derives from the city of Maribor (German: Marburg ) and came from a Jewish family from Trieste, studied in Vienna from 1913 to 1918 and received his doctorate in 1919 at the University of Padua with the thesis Le ariette di Pietro Metastasis .

Morpurgo was a private lecturer in Italian at the University of Amsterdam from 1935 to 1947 ( relieved of office at the time of the National Socialist occupation of the Netherlands). From 1947 to 1953 he was a lecturer (lecturer) at the University of Groningen , then again at the University of Amsterdam, first lecturer, from 1959 associate professor and from 1961 to 1962 full professor of Italian.

Enrico Morpurgo from Trieste should not be confused with Enrico Morpurgo (1891–1969), son of Elio Morpurgo , from Udine of the same name .
