Enrique Irazoqui

Enrique Irazoqui (born July 5, 1944 in Barcelona ) is a former Spanish film actor .

Life

Irazoqui was born in Barcelona to a Spanish father who had earned a living as a psychiatrist and an Italian mother who had worked as an entrepreneur. Irazoqui was already a student when he played the role of Jesus of Nazareth in Pier Paolo Pasolini's film drama The First Gospel - Matthew in 1964 . In 1966 and 1967 he stood in front of the camera in two other films that received little international attention before he retired into private life.

Irazoqui completed his studies in economics at the University of Barcelona ; later he lived in the United States , where he studied Spanish literature .

After a break of 25 years, he was back in front of the camera in 1992 in El largo invierno at the side of Vittorio Gassman and Elizabeth Hurley . Another 16 more years should pass before he appeared in front of the camera as an actor in A la soledat in 2008 .

In 2002 he was a referee at the legendary Brains chess duel in Bahrain .

Today Irazoqui, who was most recently professor of Spanish literature, lives in Cadaqués in the Spanish province of Girona .

In 2011 he received honorary citizenship of the small town of Matera in Italy , where the 1st Gospel - Matthew was produced in 1964 .
