Enrique López Zarza (born October 25, 1957 in Mexico City ) is a former Mexican soccer player , whose regular position was in midfield , and today's soccer coach .

Life

society

López received his first professional contract in the 1975/76 season with Club Universidad Nacional , with which he was under contract until 1983 and with which he won several titles: twice the CONCACAF Champions' Cup (1980 and 1982), once the Copa Interamericana (1981 ) and at least once the Mexican championship , to whose master squad he demonstrably belonged in the 1980/81 season (see the first mentioned web link below). Because he was also under contract there in the 1976/77 season, in which the Pumas won the first championship title in their club's history, this title should probably also be credited to him.

Between 1983 and 1987 he was with Puebla FC and in the following season 1987/88 with CF Atlante under contract. He was then three years under contract with the Cobras Ciudad Juarez before he interrupted his active career to train the offspring of the Pumas de la UNAM. In the 1992/93 season he played again actively for the reigning champions Club León , where he ended his active career at the end of the season.

National team

Enrique López made his debut in the dress of the Mexican national team in a friendly match played on February 15, 1978, which was won 5-1 against El Salvador. He played his last international match on September 18, 1984 in a game against Argentina, which ended 1-1.

The highlight of his international career was his participation in the Football World Cup in 1978 , in which López played the first half of the second round match against Germany, which was lost 6-0 and the highest World Cup defeat in Mexican history.

Trainer

After the end of his active career at the end of the 1992/93 season, he took over the post as head coach of the offspring of the UNAM Pumas, which he had already exercised once in the 1991/92 season. He held this position for three years.

In the following years he had short-term engagements as head coach or assistant coach at various clubs (see info box). Since 2010, he trained in the second division playing Pumas Morelos .
