Ensemble Alte Musik Dresden

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The Ensemble Alte Musik Dresden was an instrumentalist ensemble from Dresden from 1993 to 2006 .

history

In 1986 members of the Dresden Philharmonic founded the broken consort ensemble . Her goal was to devote herself to performing early music on historical instruments , away from everyday orchestra work. After the fall of the Berlin Wall and the reunification of Germany in 1989/90, there were new opportunities for the musicians to develop.

In connection with a highly acclaimed performance of Claudio Monteverdi's Vespro della Beata Vergine in Dresden in 1993, the musicians formed the Ensemble Alte Musik Dresden under the direction of Norbert Schuster . From now on, various pieces of early music were regularly presented in large instrumental and vocal ensembles. The focus was on works by unknown masters as well as unknown works by great composers. There was close cooperation with numerous soloists and important Dresden ensembles such as the Dresden Chamber Choir and the Dresden Baroque Orchestra .

In 2006 the ensemble joined forces with the Cappella Sagittariana under the direction of Norbert Schuster to form the Cappella Sagittariana Dresden .
