The ENTEGA Plus GmbH is an energy provider and telecommunications operator based in Darmstadt . The company is the sales subsidiary of Entega AG (formerly HEAG Südhessische Energie AG ). Among other things, it supplies 376,000 customers with electricity known as green electricity.

history

The company was founded in 1999 by HEAG Vertriebs-AG Darmstadt (today: ENTEGA AG). In 2000 the HEAG supply AG Darmstadt and the Stadtwerke Mainz formed a sales alliance. Entega became a joint subsidiary based in Darmstadt. In 2010 Stadtwerke Mainz sold its shares to HSE.

In January 2001, Entega offered an electricity product for the first time that contained proportions from renewable energy sources . In May 2007 she launched her first 100% green electricity product with the ok-power label . Since 2008 the energy mix no longer contains nuclear power . In November 2009 ENTEGA introduced a climate-neutral natural gas tariff.

Certifications

The green electricity tariffs are certified according to the initiation model of the ok-power label (private customers) or according to the retailer model (business customers). ENTEGA green electricity comes 100 percent from renewable energies. The climate-neutral natural gas tariff compensates for the CO 2 emissions resulting from the extraction, transport and combustion of natural gas through afforestation and forest protection.

Further certifications

  • Quality, environmental and energy management according to ISO 9001 and 14001 certified by TÜV Rheinland
  • Achievement of climate neutrality through annual offsetting of emissions from personal consumption and mobility (corporate carbon footprint) since 2009

Sponsorship

The company was the main sponsor of the 1.FSV Mainz 05 soccer club from July 2009 to June 2015 . The two partners have taken measures to reduce and avoid CO 2 emissions or have compensated for them. In 2010, 1. FSV Mainz 05 became the first climate-neutral club in the 1. Bundesliga. In addition, ENTEGA has been an important sponsor partner of the former Bundesliga soccer club SV Darmstadt 98 since it was founded in 1999 and has been a premium partner there since 2007. The main grandstand of the Merck Stadium at Böllenfalltor - the venue of SV Darmstadt 98 - bears the name "ENTEGA Tribüne".

criticism

The company has been criticized for the fact that only new customers can purchase pure green electricity and that existing customers still use electricity from fossil sources. In addition, the company is not a pure green electricity provider. The entire group mix consists of 12.2% electricity from fossil fuels (as of 2016).

In November 2016, a competition was launched to promote regional associations. The winner was the Muslim environmental protection association NourEnergy eV The award was withdrawn from NourEnergy because the Islam-critical networks accused NourEnergy of having contact with extremist organizations. The allegations could not be confirmed, which is why legal steps were announced. NourEnergy speaks of a smear campaign against the Islamophobic scene. Entega confirmed the withdrawal, but announced that they only wanted to communicate with those responsible at NourEnergy about this.
