The duck catch is a small lake in Mülheim an der Ruhr on the city limits of Duisburg - Wedau , created by gravel excavations . The popular excursion destination is between the Duisburg city forest and the Broich-Speldorfer forest with the Uhlenhorst . Its western bank largely forms the city limits to Duisburg. The lake is fed by the Saar rivers Rottbach and Wambach .

The lake is only 400 m away from the Duisburg Sechs-Seen-Platte , but is not counted because of its much earlier origin (before 1933) and its location on the other side of the Duisburg-Lintorf railway line. About 100 meters east of the runs in a north-south highway A3 .

nature

The name is probably derived from the high number of ducks . Other native water birds such as the great crested grebe can also be seen here.

Leisure activities and infrastructure

On the southern shore of the lake there is a campsite that is mainly used by long-term campers , sometimes also as their main residence. Seasonal and short-term parking spaces are also available.

The fishing club "Fischwaid Duisburg - Mülheim an der Ruhr und Umgebung eV" maintains a jetty at the duck catching area and uses the lake as a club water.

Bathing in the lake is no longer permitted due to the health risk from blue-green algae .

traffic

Stop at Duisburg Entenfang

Entenfang is the namesake of the Duisburg-Entenfang stop on the Troisdorf – Mülheim-Speldorf railway line . This was approached every hour by the RB line 37 Der Wedauer with diesel railcars of the DB class 628 . An SEV is currently operating as a replacement. Although the lake is completely located in Mülheim, the station is called Duisburg-Entenfang, as its facilities are already located in the Duisburg city area. The stop has been abandoned since the RB 37 line was closed on December 15, 2019.

There is a hiking car park north of the lake, which opens up a network of hiking trails in the Duisburg and Mülheim city forests. Another, much smaller car park is located directly on the western shore of the lake.
