The duck pond is a pond in Munich .

location

The pond is located in the eastern Isar floodplains in Munich's Untergiesing district between Candidstrasse in the south and the railway tracks of Munich's Südring in the north. To the east of the duck pond is the Giesing sports complex behind the primary school on Agilolfingerplatz , to the west of the southern end there is a fitness trail called the Städtischer Fitness Parcours Isarauen and a fountain with animal reliefs built by Christian Wrede in 1934 .

description

The duck pond at its southern end is fed by the Aubach , an artificial brook that branches off from the Auer Mühlbach in the Hellabrunn Zoo . In this section, the Aubach is also referred to as the Freibadbächl because it continues to flow through the Schyrenbad , Munich's oldest open-air swimming pool.

The duck pond is divided into two parts. The approximately 7400 square meter southern part is about 300 m long and at its widest point about 45 m wide. In the middle it has a small inaccessible island that measures about 140 square meters in area. At its northern end, the water falls over a weir and then flows into the somewhat lower, 1900 square meter northern part. This is about 80 m long and at its widest point about 25 m wide. At its northern end, the Freibadbächl emerges from the pond and flows under the embankment. A few meters below (north) of the weir, a concrete road bridge as a rescue access to the Isar and to the kiosk leads over the short watercourse that connects the two parts of the lake and which is not wider than a meter at its narrowest point .

According to its name, there are many ducks at the duck pond, but also other water birds such as water fowl and swans.
