Entropia Universe (formerly Project Entropia ) is an MMOFPS ( MMORPG / FPS ) that hundreds of players play together over the Internet at the same time . In July 2008 there were approximately 740,000 registered players, although it is not known how many of them are actually active. In the current version (December 2017) the game uses the CryEngine 2 .

Game content

The game is an online role-playing game . The special thing is that it is not only officially allowed, but also beneficial to trade with real money. On the planet Calypso, the PE dollar currency is used, which is linked to the US dollar at a ratio of 10: 1.

Planet, continents and spacestations

Currently (as of September 2013) the planets Calypso, Cyrene, Next Island, Rocktropia and Arkadia are available.

Calypso - The Planet

Calypso is the first planet that humans could colonize. The climate is warmer than Earth, which is due to the Calypso ecliptic . The sun never disappears far below the horizon and rises higher at noon. Due to the strong heat exchange between the hot and less hot regions, large parts of Calypso have a pleasant subtropical climate. On Calypso only two continents can be reached by the settlers: Eudoria and Amethera.

Eudoria - the old continent

Eudoria is the smaller of the two continents and much better developed. This means that there is a wide network of teleporters and associated locations or outposts. Once reached, a teleporter is a time-saving way to travel between various other teleporters on the planet that the player has previously explored. The continent also has a much better infrastructure. Eudoria has an estimated area of 50,000,000,000 square feet , or 4,650 km² and an estimated coastline of 30,000 km. The climate on Eudoria is subtropical to tropical, the vegetation alternates between open plains and moderate to dense forest cover. The highest mountain is Mt. Cerberus with 512 m followed by Mt. Hermes (495 m) and Mt. Hydra (494 m). There are only three major rivers on Eudoria: Orthos River, which flows into Lake Ambrosia, from which there is an outflow to both north and south. The Orthos River continues to the south and the Thetys River to the north, into which the Nereus River flows. Why Lake Ambrosia has two drains is still unclear. The capital is Hadesheim, the main cities are Atlas Haven, Port Atlantis and Twin Peaks. Other cities include Cape Corinth, Jason Center, Minopolis, Nymphtown and Zychion Citadel. Zychion Citadel was recently destroyed by an android attack.

Amethera - the new mighty continent

Amethera is the larger of the two continents. In fact, it is significantly larger than Eudoria. To date (July 18, 2008) not all areas of this vast continent have been activated. There are 24 teleportation stations in the previously accessible areas. The main cities are Genesis Amethera HQ, New Oxford, Omegaton West Habitat, Sakura City and Treasure Island City.

Club Neverdie - a club in space

Owner is the player Neverdie - the first participant in this game to make a million online (in terms of real dollars) in this game. There are various domes (“Dome” means a dome with flora and fauna of the planet Calypso on the space station) in which you can hunt. Every month about $ 250,000 in loot (booty, i.e. items that are captured from a creature that has been killed) are distributed.

Crystal Palace Station - a space station in space

Here you can hunt the Aurli and Kreltin species. These are only available on this space station. In early 2010, the space station was sold to player Buzz Erik Lightyear for 3,300,000 PED. If you convert the fictitious in-game currency, the investment amounted to approx. 330,000 US dollars.

economy

The entire economic system in the game is based on the game currency PE dollars, which can be converted into real dollars at a ratio of 10 to 1. The exchange is possible in both directions. The firm peg to the dollar makes real investments possible. For example, British actor Jon Jacobs bought the virtual property of a vacation resort on an asteroid for $ 100,000 . He offers his fellow players virtual hotel suites, mining rights for virtual raw materials and hunting rights for sale. Jacobs has reportedly already made $ 1 million in the game through this path and has over $ 12,000 in monthly earnings.

costs

There are no participation fees in the game and the game client can also be downloaded for free. The game is financed by the operators withholding an unspecified part of the money wagered in the game. Mind Ark's business model, according to its own information, aims to ensure that the average cost is one US dollar per hour of gaming time. In addition, Mind Ark will from time to time sell virtual properties to players.

Active participation is also possible without wagering your own money: "Sweat" (called "Vibrant Sweat" in the game) can be collected from animals using a free device that is available from the start of the game. This "sweat" can be sold to other players or processed by yourself.
