The Epagneul de Saint-Usuge is a dog breed from France that is not recognized by the FCI .
Origin and history
The Epagneul de Saint-Usuge is one of the old French pointing dog breeds. Its origins lie in the Bresse area , between the Jura and Burgundy . The focus of breeding is still there today. After he was saved as a breed through World War II, the Club de l'Epagneul de Saint-Usuge was founded in 1990. A year later, the 1936 breed standard was revised. This breed has been nationally recognized by the French Société Centrale Canine (SCC) since 2003. This assigns the breed to FCI group 7, section 1.2 and defines a working test for the breed. The FCI has the documents for international recognition.
description
As the smallest French pointing dog, it reaches a shoulder height of up to 54 cm. In appearance it is similar to the Kleiner Münsterländer . The color of the fur is plain brown or brown roan.
use
The Epagneul de Saint-Usuge was originally bred for snipe hunting in difficult terrain. Today it is used as a versatile pointing dog for fur and feathered game in the water and in the field. He is a tireless helper on the hunt both before and after the shot.
