Epione ( Greek Ηπιόνη ) is in Greek mythology the goddess of relieving pain and the wife of the god Asclepius . They had two sons Machaon and Podaleirios and five daughters Panakeia , Hygieia , Akeso , Iaso and Aigle . In the late period Telesphorus and Meditrina were also regarded as their children.

Her statue, made of Parian marble , stood in the holy district of Epidaurus next to that of Asclepius. Another statue stood in the sacred grove of the sanctuary. She is sometimes referred to as the daughter of Merops , the king of Kos .
